I love this --> "Post consistently for 90 days" and "Write it like a blog post", to get to 1k followers.
I have +2.5k followers on Linkedin, but it is revealing quite tough to turn them into (free) subscribers. People like, but it is difficult to get new reader emails.
Yes, I have found that getting people over to Substack is hard. Though, most people who are super active on the platform are looking for work, productivity content vs what I write about. I think the biggest thing is to make the substack newsletter center stage everywhere. I
I don’t have this nailed down quite yet, but that’s been my strategy.
I have analysed some of my past Linkedin posts and come up with the following findings:
- The post composition matters. Most posts above 1.5k impressions follow certain writing rules, being personal, short, provide a core lesson and invite to click to know more (= use a checklist!)
- It is better to add the article link in the post body
- There is a strong correlation between likes, impressions and time. Get people to like your post quickly after they're out (should we do a group with authors?)
- Similar posts produce less impressions over time (= vary the posts!)
I have put together some resources, including checklists and templates, links to the posts, and recommendations.
Social media is half of my day. It's the only way I can sell books. But it's getting harder and harder to get through the gatekeepers. FB is also my number one source. I hate FB with a passion, but it's a necessary evil.
Do you run ads at all? Every time I have ever tried ads on facebook, the haters come out and blow me up. It’s like Facebook loves to share my Christian Faith books with angry Atheists who I am not even trying to reach with my ads…
I ran FB ads years ago when they still could reach the proper audience. I'm just the opposite of you, I get all the Christians who don't like my f-bombs! Haha.
Good stuff, JR.

Any strategy that has worked well for you?

That’s how I feel about Facebook.

Haha, Facebook has their wires crossed sometimes.
