You’ve Probably Written Your First Draft And Don’t Even Know It (Until Now!)
Many writers are failing to write and publish books because of this one reason…
How many articles, stories, and pieces of content have you written online?
I want you to take out a piece of paper and write down every platform that you are on across the top. Here is an example of the primary platforms I create on:
Substack
Medium
LinkedIn
Now, underneath each category, I want you to write down how many pieces of content you have created there. Here is my example:
Substack: Hundreds of notes (hard to quantify at this point), 319 posts.
Medium: 1,716
LinkedIn: Hundreds of posts (I started counting and lost count.)
Blog: 1,200 posts, but I don’t really post there anymore.
As you can see, I have 3,500+ pieces of online content to draw from when it comes to things I have created. Now, if the average word count for all these posts is 500-words then I have written approximately, 1.75 million words.
Now, if you were to write the traditional 50,000 word book, that would be 35 books. But, that isn’t all. Let’s think about this for someone who is just starting out…
The New Writer’s Word Count
Say you are a new writer and you write and publish a 1,000-word post every week for a year. That’s an easy one, you have written 52,000 words. Which could be one book, or two short books.
Along the way, you write a series of 200-word posts on LinkedIn or Substack Notes, and say you do that every day for a year. That’s 73,000 words. Which can be one really big books or three short books.
No matter if you are a new writer or someone who has been around for a while, you probably can create enough content to write a book. You simply need to take advantage of The Minimalist Author approach.
The Minimalist Author Approach
Here is the basis for The Minimalist Author Approach:
Every piece of content you create goes toward writing your book.
That’s it. It is that simple. Yet, many people fail to make it happen over and over again. And I understand, there are a lot of reasons for that, but the most common one is that you think you have to do it alone.
But you don’t.
In fact, you should find a guild of writers and authors to help you take that content you create and turn it into a book. And that is what I want to help you with as an author.
If you want to join a group of authors, you’ve found the right place here on The Minimalist Author.
My name is J.R. Heimbigner, and I am a #1 Bestselling Author on Amazon with 15 self-published books. And I want to help you write and publish your bestseller.

I like the idea of using our Substack Notes for this. It'd be nice if Substack eventually gives us a listing of all the ones we have out there in an easy format.
That's my approach! I focuses my content to pushpin the reader and towards an end destination and alone creates a web of interconnected content.
