The Minimalist Author’s Choose Your Own Adventure
Growing up, I used to love to choose your own adventure books. They could be any kind; science fiction, detective, or historical. They were always so fun to me.
And while I was thinking about helping writers, authors, and creators write and publish books, I thought this could be a great opportunity to engage that style of fun to your reading.
this choose your own adventure starts with a question:
What is your goal?
Do you want to write your first book? Do you want to write a new book? Or do you want to make some money writing books?
Once you decide what your goal is, then you can choose the path to take. And in this case, you can skip to the part which will help you reach your goal.
Here are your paths:
Aspiring Author
Returning Author
Side Hustle Author
Now the following sections are based on these three paths. The first section is for aspiring authors. The second section is for returning authors and the third section is for the side hustle author.
Choose your path now!
Section One: The Aspiring Author
All right, you are part of the 80% of people who want to write a book but you haven’t done it yet. Maybe you have written a few chapters or thought about your book in depth but you actually haven’t finished a manuscript.
You are in good company. If you took 100 people in a room 80 of those people have a dream of writing a book. You are in this group of people.
Now for the aspiring author getting started is your biggest challenges. And for many aspiring authors, who make it a long way and writing their book but never published they need a little more help.
In this section, I will address this challenge.
Challenge #1: Getting Started
Getting started writing your book can be really difficult. You have lots of ideas you have an excitement to do the task, but you never actually start. There are three reasons for this:
You are afraid. You fear something. It might be failure or other people reading your book. Whatever it is, you might be afraid to actually se your book in the world.
You believe lies. In your head you’re hearing lies telling you that you don’t have enough time. You don’t have enough experience. You don’t have enough authority to write a book. These are all lies.
You are overwhelmed. The thought of writing a 300 page book or taking an idea and going through the entire process of self publishing is overwhelming to you. You are not alone, but it’s a lot easier than you think.
How To Get Started
Going down this path doesn’t have to be scary. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming and it’s very straightforward. And I have created a resource to make it easy to get started.
In this resource, it gives you the exact plan that I use to write and publish my books it’s so simple that I call The Minimalist Author Way.
With this resource you can get started today. And about those lies they don’t hold a candle to the fact that you have a story that you have a solution or that you have a lesson learned that can help someone else.
And about those fears, don’t let fear hold you back from helping somebody. There are a lot of reasons not to write a book, but the best reason to write that book is the person who reads it and it changes their life.
If you are ready to get started, I highly encourage you to join The Minimalist Author Way today!
Section Two: The Returning Author
All right, you are returning author. Maybe you have published a book or two but it’s been a long time and you you’re having a hard time restarting the work you’ve done in the past.
Or perhaps you finished a book and it felt arduous It felt like a long process, and you don’t feel confident that your first effort was the most effective.
If this is you I have news for you. You’re facing the second major challenge that authors experience: doubt.
Challenge #2: Doubt
Even if you feel good about your first book and it did pretty well selling hundreds of thousands of copies maybe it even hit a bestseller list on Amazon you might still be experiencing doubt.
And that’s okay. I think the majority of authors experience doubt but the ones that make things happen and get their books out there know how to overcome that doubt.
Doubt is good because it encourages you to question what you’ve done learn from any mistakes and then it can spur you on to achieve something greater in your next book.
Maybe you need to change up your launch plan or you need to go from the DIY cover or editing and hire somebody this next time. Whatever it may be those doubts can inform you on how you can improve.
This is when you simply need a little bit more information that will help you take action.
Take Action with A Little Information
For the returning author, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. You simply need to take something added into your process and improve what you’ve already done.
In this, I have a resource that shares what I do with my self-publishing process and it’s super straightforward where you can reference the different sections to maybe improve upon the places that you didn’t feel went well in your last book.
This resource is my 90-Day Self-Publishing Guide. With this guide it breaks down my process, but you can easily reference the different parts of self publishing in order to learn something new and improve on what you’ve done.
Section Three: The Side Hustle Author
All right in this section for the side hustle author you are someone who’s written a few books. You’re making a little bit off your royalties but now you want to encourage more income in your writing business.
The challenge that so many authors face is that book royalty income isn’t as much as we hoped it would be.And while we may feel like Walt Disney at the beginning of his efforts and making movies that we want to make money to make more books we aren’t going to do that with royalties.
Challenge #3: Creating Income with our Books
For so many authors, we think that we are going to make a living off of royalties, but the reality is we either need hundreds of books or to get lucky.
Well, there is a third way and it’s what I’m doing to grow my writing business while still writing and publishing books. And it’s not reliant upon royalties.
The way that you overcome this challenge is by creating digital products that you can point the readers of your books too, and make money on the back end.
Here’s what this looks like:
In your books, you have a call to action at the beginning and end for people to join your email list.
When they join your email list, you pitch a trip wire product that helps them solve a specific problem.
When they buy the trip wire product and receive emails from you, you’re able to pitch other products with great value.
And if you want to take it a step further, you point people to high dollar products or services or coaching.
But how do you get started?
The easiest way to get started is to put that call the action in the front and back of your books and when they sign up, you have a trip wire product.
And the easiest way to create a trip our product is to create a short mini book PDF, that solves a specific problem for your reader.
In the easiest way to do this, as a writer is to write what I call a mini book that doesn’t have to be as long as your published box, but it has to be actionable practical and consumable in a short amount of time.
The best part is that you can do this in seven days and start making money with it in order to point people to hire value products or to boost your authority.
The way that I do this and share how I do it is through my 7-Day Mini Book Challenge. With the challenge, you’ll be able to go from specific problem to specific solution and sell your solution for low price in order to get people into your system.
