Hello Friend,
January was a stinker of a month. It hit me hard. Heck, it hit my entire family hard. You probably noticed I didn’t publish much here on Substack or Medium.
My family and I were sick for three weeks. And it was rough. No energy. No ability to think. Lots of coughing and laying around. Resting was probably good, but it didn’t contribute to my writing ventures.
However, during this time, it allowed me to listen to the Lord and take a good long look at all the plans I had set out for this year. I had shared a little about my plans before.
Yet, things have changed, and I thought I might share some of these new plans with you today.
What you can expect on J.R. Heimbigner
Here are a couple of things you will see me jump into this year with this Substack page:
I am moving my URL, jrheimbigner.com, to this page and ditching my blog. I have grown to dislike WordPress, and I think this will help me buy in on Substack.
I am going to stop pretending to be a guru. I don’t know that I have intentionally been doing this, but looking back at last year’s content, that’s how it feels to me.
I am going to share my journey. I have been working hard-ish at self-publishing, but I am no master. As such, I will share what is going on every step of the way, and you can join me in my work and journey.
Paid subscriptions will stay. But I am not going to offer anything special. I am not going to offer anything at all or share paid content. It will simply be a space for readers to support my work.
Doing more with the community. I will probably do more chats to discuss things that work for other self-publishing authors and answer questions for those who haven’t published yet. I believe this will be a fun change of pace.
So, that is a little about the changes you will see here. As you can see, I have changed fonts a little and will try to update my designs here. Let me know what you think in the comments!
Final Thought
More will come, and I hope you are up for sticking around. I think that this could be a great space to learn from each other and to be able to share the passion of self-publishing books.
Thanks for sticking with me through all the crazy of January and even as I try to figure out what I am doing as an author and creator!
So sorry your family was sick. 🙏 I haven't written anything for my website in months. I found writing on Medium so much easier. I'm still paying for catyson.com. I have been nervous about letting it go because I planned on writing a lot more books. That hasn't happened and I'm enjoying writing on Medium so much now. Thanks to your advice I wrote and published just about every day in January. I missed three days, but published two posts two of the days. Without having a boosted story I made a LOT more money than I have been on Medium. I feel like it's a pride thing not to step away from the website I've had for years, but haven't been utilizing. The fact that you are letting go of your website, with your name makes me rethink this. Maybe it's time to let Catyson.com go and concentrate on Medium and Substack. I have my website listed on my bookmarks and all of my social sites, but what good is it if I'm not publishing there? You have given me a lot to think about J.R. Get well soon. We missed you. :)
Very timely post for me. I don't remember why I sub'd to you as have had no time to deal with it but I am glad I did. My website host gave me instruftion to install WP into my current simple basic site only because they don't have real blog abilities. I haven't gone to the next stage I haven't liked WP for 10 years now I had always used blogger. I joined substack as I heard stuff about the blogs so thank you for reminding me to ck out SS first . Yep Im writing books now to NOT be the guru to those who don't want to hear now they can read them or not... whew. And the community of authors is what I signed up to SS and mediium for soooo time to get on with it. Now back to getting money from paul to pay peter for this egypt trip my 3rd book. Thank you for showing up right now!
