Change is inevitable.
We know this, and we like to think we have accepted it. Yet, when a big change happens, we can’t quite get over it.
Sometimes, these are silly things. They are a change in a sports team we like or a product we love to buy.
And other times, it is more serious, the loss of a loved one or good friends moving or changing jobs.
Nevertheless, change will happen in life; the sooner we embrace it, the better.
Learning to Embrace Change
What does this have to do with a Christian or self-publishing author? Well, it has everything to do with it. We constantly face change, especially in the online world where nothing stays the same, and changes happen every month.
As a writer, we need to learn to adapt to the changes. We must let go of what we know and take hold of what we don’t know. The faster we do that, the better chance we have to continue to succeed.
As a Christian, this is important too. While our core faith doesn’t change, how the world perceives and receives our faith changes as fast as the internet. Learning to let go of one way of doing things and considering new ways allows us to minister to others better.
Why am I sharing this today?
Last night, I dreamed of being in a coffee shop with many writers. I talked to two people, and they shared with me about changes in their lives that devastated them.
One of the people I talked to was a writer. The other was a barista in the coffee shop. One lost a book deal they had worked on for over a year. The other last was a family member in a senseless accident.
In the dream, I prayed for them. While I prayed for them, they were transformed before my eyes, and so was the coffee shop.
Before, they were drab, downcast, and mean to others. The coffee shop was run down and almost like a dive bar.
After praying for them, the people were happy, bright, and excited about the world ahead. But they also seemed wiser, almost scholarly. And the coffee shop was bright and beautiful, with rich wood walls and the smell of rich, fragrant coffee.
This dream was for someone.
I believe someone reading this has been struggling with a change in their life, and I want to encourage you today to bring it before God. He understands your grief, pain, and loss.
But he wants you to give it to him, and he will replace it with joy, excitement, and wisdom for the future. It will be a gift from him that will change your life and the lives of people around you.
And you will be able to give that gift too.
