Self-Publishing Isn't Easy, But I Do It Anyway
I've been struggling with my latest book, here are three reasons why
I’ve been trying to write my latest book since January 1.
Guess what? I have finished the introductory sections only. Here is the actual introduction. Oh, by the way, I wrote that last month.
This last weekend, I realized that I need to get moving on things. So, I have set the goal to finish my first draft by May 31. This way, I can get my editor and cover designers on board and launch by the end of June.
All that to say, it has been a struggle. And if you are a self-publishing writer, you probably know what that is like. However, if you aren’t or you are considering writing a book, let me share with you the three main reasons I struggle:
Shiny-object-syndrome: I will bounce from one thing to the next, starting project after project and never finishing any of them.
Fear: Look, I write Christian devotionals. Christians and non-Christians alike can be hard on these sorts of books.
Spiritual Component: As a Christian, I believe spiritual components are at play in doing something specific to my faith. And so, it can play a factor.
These are my big three. They are easy to overcome, but I have almost to say them out loud to come them over. After all, if I don’t, they can still have a little control over me. So, what do I do?
Dial in my focus. My wife and I have devised a plan to help me focus on writing the book and getting things done. It involved cutting out a bunch of things. And so far, it’s good.
Acknowledging fear and overcoming it with love. I write devotionals because I want to help people grow closer to God. I do it out of love. Some people don’t appreciate that, but others are very thankful.
Pray against the spiritual attack and declare power and freedom. If the spiritual world doesn’t want things from God’s Kingdom to happen, I must pray against it and declare the truth. Here is a little more about prayer.
Self-Publishing is not Easy, But it’s Worth it.
No matter what I come up against, self-publish books, especially ones about my faith, are completely worth it. If you want to stay up to date with my current devotional, jump over to Transformed Faith and sign up or support my work on Buy Me A Coffee.
I will keep daily updates on my progress with Buy Me A Coffee, and anything I earn there will go toward my fees for the editor and cover designer.
