Dear Writer,
Have you ever had one of those weeks where you had huge plans to get things done, but none of those plans happened? You know the ones you go to get up early to write or schedule your time, but it doesn’t happen.
That has been my week.
This morning, for example, I woke up at 5:45 am to my youngest daughter ready to get out of her crib. We got out of bed, had a bottle, and now we are all snuggled up on the couch. Luckily, she likes listening to me type away at my keyboard.
So, here I am, working on the essential piece of the day. And this might be about all I get to this morning. But that is okay. As writers, we get caught up in consistently doing this thing or that thing.
Then, when things don’t go our way, we feel the need to punish ourselves or feel less of a writer for one reason or another. The fact is, life happens, and that is okay. Tomorrow is a new day, and you can also make things happen.
I’m not giving you a license to procrastinate on your project.
It’s a fine line between giving yourself grace for not being able to get something done and just putting it off. So, don’t think it’s okay to put off your project without other outside forces.
Also, I will probably find time today to do some of my regular writing. After all, it’s double ballet today for my daughters, so when I take them to class, there is always time then.
When it comes to your work-in-progress, what things get in the way? How do you work around those interruptions? Leave a comment in the post on Substack!
