How to Pay for Your Self-Published Books
5 Ways I Make Money Online to Pay for My Self-Published Books
If you need to spend money to make money, here’s how to make money to spend.
I recently shared how I wrote and published a book on the weekend. That book was done with minimal cost and could have quickly been done for free.
However, I pay for essential services like an editor and cover designer for most of my books. I do some of my work which others will pay for, such as book description, category and keyword research, and formatting/typesetting.
Here’s the thing: I just mentioned all make a huge difference in making money and becoming a #1 bestseller. So, it’s worth paying for these services. (I can do some of these for you, too, check out the services I offer)
All that to say, you need to have the money to pay for these services to help your book. Today, I wanted to share with you five ways I make money to pay for my self-publishing costs.
5 Ways to Make Money Online to Pay for Your Books
Here are five ways I make money online to pay for my publishing costs right now.
Writing for content sites.
The first way is that I write on Medium, NewsBreak, and Substack with a paid subscription. There are other platforms with partner programs, but these are great ways to start making your initial income while practicing in public.
Become a freelance writer.
This is one that I have dabbled in over the years. However, I have not made a considerable and consistent effort at freelancing. Though, there are plenty of writers out there who are doing well with this option. (Here are some of my freelancing options).
Sell digital products.
This is another one that I use. I have some products up on Gumroad, and I have sold some digital products on Ko-Fi too. Last year, I started seeing a nice little income with this sales style.
Sell more books.
This is where you write one, two, or three weekend books and publish them right away. The sales you make from these short, published books can jumpstart your income and help you pay for other services.
Offer coaching with something you have a skill.
I have done this a little. However, there are lots of things that you can come up with to coach others. The key is to make some regular income without much effort, and you get a chance to help people too.
Final Thoughts on Making Money to Self-Publish Books
I get it. These are groundbreaking. But they are straightforward, and anyone can get started doing them today. I have used all of these to get my books off the ground.
And you know what? It has taken a lot of work to make extra money to self-publish quality books. The best part is how these different tactics might lead you into something else with your writing!
So, give them a try today, and let me know which ones you like most!
Start Here!
Are there other books to read? Sure are. I have two short lists of them in my Writer’s Starter Pack on Gumroad (It’s free, you should check it out). The only other book I want to highlight is my own.
It’s called Transform Your Medium Stories.
Initially written for writers on the Medium platform, the content of this book works for any online content. And it is a great short guide to help you write and publish your first book. So grab your copy today!
J.R. Heimbigner is a #1 Bestselling Author on Amazon who loves helping people grow in their faith and help writers become authors. You can connect with him on Medium, his website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Substack!
My name is Jeanne Knapp. I wrote a children’s mystery as my stay at home activity. I bought several copies of both versions of my four books. I'm hoping once we get back to somewhat of a normal life I can take them to bookstores in person and ask if they would sell them or at least maybe I could let them know that I have them on Amazon.
I did drop off a set of my books at the north branch of the Blue Springs library for the Collection Development Department several weeks ago. However, no one called me back. And when I called I was told the lady who decides which books get to go on shelves suddenly had to take a leave of absence. I found out this week that my books are in the Mid Continent Public Library system (physical copies and ebooks).
I would also like to do book signings and other author events sometime somewhere. That is why I am contacting you. Would it be possible to do book signings or other author events there?
I have written four books in the series and I am writing book five.
