Consistency Is Key, And I Have Not Been Very Consistent Lately

I mean, aside from being consistently horrible...

My ducks have not been in a row for a very long time.

Sure, that might sound moderately dramatic, as does the title, but stick with me briefly as I share what I mean.

You see, two years ago, I took a job for more money because it was a huge opportunity. There were only supposed to be upsides.

And yet, it has been the most miserable two years of my professional life.

During this time, I experienced being ‘quiet fired’ (which I thought was a farce), managers riding me for more hours (at one point, I was working Saturdays and Sundays for upwards of 60 hours a week), and ultimately had to ask for a demotion.

But what does all this have to do with writing?

Well, you see, my two years in this hell-hole of a day job have hampered my health (both physically and mentally), hurt my relationships and sucked the life out of my creative energy and focus.

You may have noticed how I have been all over the place with projects and writing. You may also have noticed that I haven’t been consistent in writing and publishing on Substack.

And that is what I am getting at: my consistency has sucked, and I’m sorry.

You might be thinking, why are you apologizing to me about your consistency? Well, I create things online and with my books to help people. However, I create garbage when I am inconsistent and spread too thin.

And looking back at the last six months, I have had some good content, but there has been a lot of garbage too. And because I am thankful you signed up for my Substack, I also want to apologize for occasionally sending your garbage.

Quitting Things and Making Adjustments

Now, I am cleaning up my mess. I am working on two significant things for the rest of the year. And I want to share those with you.

1. I am working on quitting things. I am firing things that have taken up time that is not bringing the best work to you, my reader. I will share more about that here.

2. I am making some adjustments to my creative work. Right now, I will start dialing things back and updating my content. I will also stick to a bare-bones publishing schedule, which includes weekly here on Substack.

What does this mean for you? My goal is to create better content that can be a valuable resource. So, I am dialing some things back to help improve my content. Because ultimately, I want to help you as a writer and an author.

I hope you will have some patience with me. It will be a work in progress, but I want to get back on track for you as much as for me.

And again, I think you for subscribing to my Substack. It means so much to me; I want to provide helpful, straightforward information. That is my commitment to you. But I wanted to start by being honest with you.
